On February 28, Professor Thomas Ng, Associate Vice President of City University of Hong Kong, led a delegation to visit Southeast University. In the morning of the same day, the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University and the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong signed an academic cooperation memorandum. The two institutions will integrate their strengths in various disciplines and collaborate deeply in areas such as research innovation, faculty and student exchanges, and academic cooperation. Professor Guo Tong, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University, and Professor Dai Jianguo, Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. The signing ceremony was attended by Assistant Professor Lu Guoyang from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, Vice Dean Li Dezhi, Assistant Dean Cai Jianguo, Professor Xie Tianyu, Associate Professor Liu Jialin, and Dr. Zhou Shenghua from the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University.

In his speech, Dean Guo Tong reviewed the historical foundation of the long-term cooperation between the two universities and their respective departments. He pointed out that the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University has a strong foundation in discipline development and has formed significant advantages in cutting-edge areas such as resilient cities and smart construction and operation in recent years. City University of Hong Kong, as a globally renowned top international research university, is known for its international perspective and advanced research capabilities. This collaboration will integrate the strengths of both sides, achieve deep integration, and further promote the development of their disciplines.

In his speech, Vice President Wu Zhaotang provided a detailed overview of City University of Hong Kong, highlighting the university’s strengths in specific academic fields. He expressed high appreciation for the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University, particularly for its research capabilities. He emphasized that future cooperation between the two institutions will focus on key areas such as collaborative research breakthroughs, talent development, and academic exchanges. He expressed hope that the cooperation would continue to deepen and yield even more significant results in the future.

After the successful conclusion of the signing ceremony, both sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on the direction for deepening future cooperation. They plan to carry out comprehensive and in-depth partnership cooperation in areas such as a young faculty forum, student summer camps, joint graduate supervision, dual doctoral degrees, research projects, and research bases. Following the discussion, Vice President Wu Zhaotang and his delegation from City University of Hong Kong visited the Tang Zhongying Earthquake Resistance and Disaster Prevention Experimental Platform, the Seismic Science Popularization Base, and the Smart Construction Laboratory at our school.

On the afternoon of the 28th, Professor Wu Xiaotang and Professor Dai Jianguo delivered two insightful academic presentations. Professor Wu gave a lecture on "Digital Transformation as a Pathway for Breakthroughs in the Construction Industry", while Professor Dai presented on "New Material Technologies for the Full Life-Cycle Operation and Maintenance of Concrete Structures"
