Faculty and students from our university achieved multiple prestigious awards at the Greater China Forum of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

The 3rd Greater China Forum of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was successfully held in Nanning, Guangxi, from January 10 to 13, 2025. Our school delivered an outstanding performance at the forum, winning several prestigious awards including the ASCE Greater China Young Engineer Award, the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award for Student Chapters, and the Student Leader Award. These achievements fully demonstrate Southeast University's leading position in the field of civil engineering and its strength in talent cultivation.

Themed "Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development in Civil Engineering," the forum was hosted by the ASCE Greater China Section and co-organized by Guangxi University, Tsinghua University, and several other institutions. It brought together more than 150 top experts and scholars from around the world, including Academician Nie Jianguo of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Foreign Academician Ahsan Kareem. The participating experts engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as new theories, technologies, and methods in civil engineering, as well as the sustainable development of the industry.

In the individual award category, our school achieved remarkable results. Professor Xie Tianyu was honored with the ASCE Greater China Young Engineer Award for his innovative research achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of structural engineering. This award, presented to researchers under the age of 38, recognizes young scholars who have made significant contributions to civil engineering, and stands as a high affirmation of Professor Xie’s accomplishments in academic research and technological innovation.

Associate Dean Yao Yiming was honored with the ASCE Greater China Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Award. As the faculty advisor of the ASCE Student Chapter at Southeast University, Professor Yao has been deeply committed to nurturing innovative talents with a global perspective. He has led students in a wide range of productive academic exchanges and research activities, making significant contributions to enhancing our university’s influence within international academic organizations.

Professor Xie Tianyu accepted the ASCE Greater China Student Chapter Faculty Advisor Award on behalf of Associate Dean Yao Yiming

Fu Yulin, an undergraduate student from the School of Civil Engineering and one of the key leaders of the school’s Undergraduate Science and Technology Association, stood out among numerous candidates and was honored with the ASCE Greater China Outstanding Student Leadership Award. This award not only recognizes Fu Yulin’s personal excellence but also affirms Southeast University’s approach to cultivating talent in civil engineering.

In recent years, the School of Civil Engineering has continuously deepened international exchanges and cooperation, actively advancing the internationalization of talent development. These efforts have yielded remarkable results in nurturing high-caliber talents with global perspectives and innovative capabilities. Students have consistently achieved excellent results in various international competitions organized by ASCE. In 2020, Southeast University was officially approved to establish its own ASCE Student Chapter, further showcasing the innovative strengths and international vision of its civil engineering students.
