On January 13, 2024, China Highway Society organized a project outcome evaluation meeting on Key technologies and Equipment for Intelligent perception and unmanned repair of Bridge Underwater Structure jointly completed by Southeast University, Shanghai Maritime University and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute.

The project team led by Professor Wu Gang of Southeast University is one of the first teams in China to pay attention to and carry out the research on underwater structure inspection and reinforcement of Bridges. In 2011, it began to lead and complete the Western Transportation construction technology project Research and Demonstration of underwater structure reinforcement of Western Highway Bridges. He also presided over more than 20 national projects such as the national key research and development Plan project Key technical equipment for Underwater Emergency detection and Disposal of hydraulic buildings damaged by natural disasters and the National Natural Science Foundation's major instrument development project Development of integrated intelligent system for Underwater structure inspection, Evaluation and repair of Highway Bridges. After more than ten years of research, the project team has achieved rich results from the wide area screening technology for underwater bridge diseases, comprehensive fine detection methods, underwater unmanned repair and reinforcement technology and materials, and underwater robot maintenance operation equipment. The project has won 43 invention patents at home and abroad, published 167 high-level academic papers, and completed more than 100 engineering applications, such as erosion detection of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, underwater unmanned maintenance of Qinhuai River Bridge, rapid underwater survey of large bridge groups in the Yangtze River basin in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, and emergency support of underwater structures in the 23·7 flood of Haihe River. Professor Wang Jingquan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Army Engineering University of the People's Liberation Army, serves as the chairman, Professor Yang Yongbin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Ding Han, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Ding Han, Huazhong University of Science and Technology serves as the deputy chairman, a total of 8 academicians of the project evaluation expert committee unanimously agreed that The project results of Key technologies and equipment for intelligent perception and unmanned repair of Bridge Underwater structure have generally reached the international leading level.
