The Civil Engineering Discipline of Southeast University Welcomed its Centennial and Held a High-quality Development Conference

On the morning of October 22nd, the Centennial Celebration and High-Quality Development Conference of the Civil Engineering Discipline (Department, School) of Southeast University took place at the Sports Arena on the Jiulong Lake Campus. Themed A Century of Concrete Achievements, Charting a Grand Vision for the Next Decade, the conference unfolded through four chapters: Accumulation, Heritage, Cohesion, and Striving, outlining a century of glory and showcasing future aspirations.

Over 20 Deans from sister universities and colleges, more than 50 national survey and design masters, distinguished scholars recognized by the Yangtze River Scholars Program, representatives from sister universities, representatives from the business community, outstanding alumni in the field of civil engineering, Southeast University leaders including Zuo Wei, Huang Ru, Wu Gang, Huang Dawei, Xing Jihong, as well as department heads, faculty, media representatives, and over 2000 students and their families were present at the grand event.

He expressed gratitude to those who supported its development. Additionally, he encouraged the discipline to lead in creating a world-class model, contributing to Southeast University's global excellence and China's modernization.

Professor Mufti expressed anticipation for the members of the Civil Engineering discipline at Southeast University to be well-prepared for the new journey, address the challenges of the times, contribute to the advancement of knowledge, and enhance the well-being of society.

Academician of China Engineering Academy Dong Shilin from Zhejiang University expressed his heartfelt expectations for the future development of Southeast University's Civil Engineering discipline through a calligraphic work that reads, A hundred years of endeavor reveals splendor; sailing into the future, even more brilliant. He earnestly hopes that the Civil Engineering discipline at Southeast University will continue to forge ahead and create new glories.

Representatives of alumni conveyed their blessings through various means. The oldest alumnus currently reachable, 104-year-old Hong Guanghui, residing in Canada, and the youngest group of alumni representatives working in Iraq, Yan Chen and Yao Yiming from China Construction First Bureau Development Company, expressed their congratulations via video. Additionally, seven alumni, including Mao Huixi, Wang Rengui, Zeng Bin, Guo Jian, He Junli, Hu Yaowu, and Du Erhu, representing various specialties within the Civil Engineering discipline, delivered speeches. They collectively reflected on their academic experiences at Southeast University, expressed gratitude for the nurturing from their alma mater, and pledged to contribute their efforts to the development of various endeavors at the university.

On the momentous occasion of the centennial celebration of Southeast University's Civil Engineering discipline, a special effort has been made to create a Centennial History Museum to trace the discipline's rich history and foster its spirit. In a congratulatory video, Dr. Qi Kang, an academician from the School of Architecture, extended his best wishes. The formal inauguration of the Centennial History Museum featured the participation of ten distinguished individuals. These individuals, comprising members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, accomplished scholars from developed countries, National Outstanding Teachers, and recipients of the National Baosteel Excellence in Teaching Award, collectively marked the commencement of the museum. Notably, Huang Ru and Zhou Lan presented the Outstanding Contribution Award for Discipline Construction to these esteemed academicians and distinguished teachers.

In recent years, Southeast University's Civil Engineering discipline has made remarkable achievements by strategically focusing on areas such as safety, longevity, intelligence, and green development. The conference showcased Southeast University's comprehensive planning in the field of urban lifeline engineering safety. In response to the new challenges in the high-quality development of urban safety, Southeast University, leveraging its disciplinary expertise, talent pool, team strength, and platforms, is set to contribute its intellectual prowess to enhance the safety of urban lifeline projects.

During the event, Wu Gang, representing Southeast University, participated in several significant ceremonies. These included the unveiling of the China Engineering Construction Standardization Association's Urban Lifeline Engineering Safety Professional Committee, the exchange of agreement texts with China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the exchange of agreement texts with ZTE Corporation and the State Key Laboratory of Mobile Network and Multimedia Technology for collaborative agreements, and the inauguration ceremony of the first issue of the journal Urban Lifeline. The activities highlighted Southeast University's commitment to advancing knowledge and contributing to the safety of urban lifeline projects in collaboration with various partners.

The academicians present at the event commemorated the A Decade of New Journey Ode by signing it, and as the scroll unfurled, they collectively expressed their wishes for the Civil Engineering discipline to make even greater contributions to societal progress and the well-being of humanity in its future journey.
