Recently, Professor Pan Jinlong's team of SCE published a research paper titled Unveiling the Remarkable Potential of Geopolymer-based Materials by Harnessing Manganese Dioxide Incorporation in the international authoritative journal Small. The study conducted mechanical and thermoelectric performance research on high-performance cement-based thermoelectric devices, and explored the thermoelectric effect mechanism and optimization design methods of new building thermoelectric devices based on solid-state physics theory. Currently, building-related energy consumption accounts for 46% of the total social energy consumption, with the proportion of electricity consumption in building energy consumption exceeding 55%. This research aims to further reduce the energy consumption level of buildings through thermoelectric technology, combined with photovoltaic power generation and bioelectricity technology, to help achieve the goal of zero-carbon buildings and nearly zero-energy consumption of building structures.

Southeast University is the first completion unit and corresponding unit of the paper. Associate Professor Cai Jingming and second-year master student Yuan Yujin from our school are the first and second authors of the paper, and Professor Pan Jinlong from our school is the corresponding author of the paper. The collaborative units of the paper include Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, Hohai University, and Nanjing Tech University. The team has published more than ten SCI papers in this field and has been granted multiple national invention patents. This research work has been funded by the Jiangsu Carbon Peak Carbon Neutrality Science and Technology Innovation Special Fund, the National Key R&D Program, and the Humboldt Fund project in Germany.
