SCE successfully held the first international assessment of discipline construction

To accelerate the Double First-Class construction at Southeast University, promote the development and internationalization of the civil engineering discipline, enhance the connotation, comprehensive strength, and international influence of civil engineering, mechanics, management science and engineering, etc., the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University completed the international assessment of discipline construction from September 13th to September 15th, 2023. The expert panel consisted of 7 internationally renowned experts, including academicians and professors from Singapore, Russia, Australia, Norway, the UK, the Netherlands, and the USA.

On the morning of the 14th, the opening ceremony was attended by academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huang Ru, President of Southeast University, Zhong Wenqi, Vice President of Southeast University, Professor Fei Qingguo, Director of the Development Planning and Discipline Construction Office and Director of the Double First-Class Construction Office, Professor Wang Chen, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office, Professor Wu Zhishen, Director of the Academic Committee of the School of Civil Engineering at Southeast University and a foreign academician of the Japan Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Science and Arts, Professor Su Zhiqiang from the Singapore Academy of Engineering at Southeast University, Guo Tong, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Liu Jing, Secretary of the Party Committee, all leaders of the School of Civil Engineering, heads of various disciplines, and teacher representatives.

 

Professor Zhong Wenqi, Vice President of Southeast University, welcomed the seven international assessment experts and briefly introduced the history and development of the university and the School of Civil Engineering. He acknowledged the recent achievements in discipline construction at the School of Civil Engineering and earnestly requested valuable suggestions and opinions from the experts. Professor Huang Ru, President of Southeast University, presented certificates to the international assessment experts and expressed gratitude.

 

Guo Tong, dean of the School of Civil Engineering, reported on the discipline construction of the school from several aspects, such as the general situation of the school, school-running mechanism, teacher construction, personnel training, teaching, scientific research and practice, international cooperation, and future development planning. Then the assessment experts had an in-depth discussion on the construction of the subject with the school and college leaders.

 

During the international assessment process over the next two days, the assessment team conducted on-site investigations of the School of Civil Engineering's basic educational facilities, teaching, and research achievements. In the afternoon of the 14th, the assessment experts conducted on-site inspections of the course design and held discussions with lecturers, associate professors, and professors at the college. They then visited the laboratories to understand the equipment and progress of experiments. After inspecting the laboratories, the assessment experts held discussions with undergraduate and graduate student representatives to gain in-depth insight into students' learning, research, and future development plans.

 

 

 

 

On the morning of September 15th, the assessment experts held a closed-door meeting to discuss the discipline construction of the School of Civil Engineering. In the afternoon, they exchanged the assessment and discussion results with the school leadership and reported the evaluation results to the university. Professor Zhong Wenqi, Vice President of Southeast University, Professor Zhao Weijie, Deputy Director of Development Planning and Discipline Construction Department of Southeast University, Professor Su Zhiqiang, Academician of the Singapore Academy of Engineering and Professor at Southeast University, Dean Guo Tong, Party Secretary Liu Jing, Deputy Secretary Wang Lingyan, Vice Deans Huang Zhen, Zhang Jian, Yao Yiming, and Dean's Assistant Cai Jianguo attended the feedback meeting on the assessment results.

 

The assessment experts conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the School of Civil Engineering, acknowledging its achievements and providing valuable feedback. The international assessment will serve as a reference for the school's development, and the school will work to address the identified issues and strive for more effective results in discipline construction, talent cultivation, and research.
