From August 23rd to 27th, the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) held its 2020/2021 Academic Annual Conference, with over 500 expert representatives from more than 40 countries in attendance. As a leading international organization in the field of civil and architectural structures, the IASS boasts a history of over 60 years, guiding the global development of spatial structures.
During this academic conference, doctoral student Zhang Qian, under the guidance of Professors Feng Jian and Cai Jianguo, was honored with the 19th Hangai Prize, presented by the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS). Additionally, Zhang Qian delivered a keynote presentation titled 'Programmable and reconfigurable surfaces with kirigami-inspired bistable elements.
The Hangai Prize, established by the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) in memory of the late distinguished scholar Professor Yasuhiko Hangai, is awarded annually to recognize outstanding young scholars, designers, and engineers worldwide for their exceptional achievements in the research, design, and engineering practice of spatial structures. Only four recipients are honored each year.
